wait for this movie, the build-up, the prequels and the non-stop advertising…they’ve
all been worth it.

quick, I feel the need to let anyone reading this know that there will be
spoilers. I’ll be as vague as possible in most instances, but there’s going to
be some details I’ll have to talk about. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and
don’t want to know anything other than what’s been shown in the trailers, then
read no farther. Just know that this movie is worth your hard-earned coin. ALL
of your hard-earned coin.
Also, if you haven't seen it yet, stay through the credits. It's pretty much a must-do now for all of Marvel's movies, but it needs to be said here. Stay until all the credits have rolled. You won't regret it.
More Old Spice commercials with Terry Crews can only be a good thing. These run during some of my kids' shows on Cartoon Network, so now they'll randomly bust out with "Pa pa pa pa pa pa POWER!" My kids are awesome.
I'm not much of a Lego guy, and I've never taken an interest in any Lego stop motion animation films, but I can respect hard work and an awesome video when I see it. Also, Captain America kills Nazis. Church.
This supercut of TV shows referencing other TV shows is almost perfect. The each clip flows into the just-referenced show, and the way the ending comes back around to the beginning...mwah! (I just did that thing you do when you put your fingers up to your mouth and then make that kissy sound...you know, forget it...it's a visual thing) INTERNET!
This might have been my favorite commercial from the Superbowl. Also, I really used to like Old Milwaukee, but I haven't had it in a while.
This is just a fun video. It's a bunch of TV and movie clips edited together to Flo Rida's "Club Can't Handle Me." Major props for all the Supernatural and various geeky inclusions.
I loved the first three Jason Bourne movies so much that I went out and bought the books. After reading the books, I was sorely disappointed in the movies. The movies are only loosely based on the books and only share a basic plot and some character names. That said, this movie looks good. Jeremy Renner is a good actor, and I'll watch almost anything with Ed Norton in it.
Epic Meal Pies? Mmmmm, pie. Pies are good, but this looks like the laziest episode they've done yet.
I think Marvel’s Astonishing line is a silly concept. Stories set just outside continuity? Why make a separate line for that, when it’s not exactly outside continuity. All the stuff from Whedon’s Astonishing X-Men run is canon. He brought Colossus back, gave form to the Danger Room and introduced a new alien race, all of which moved smoothly into “regular” continuity. I loved Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine, I loved Warren Ellis’ run on AXM (and I’m enjoying Jason Aaron’s current run, although I don’t understand why they’re doing alternating stories), and while it isn’t the greatest Thor story I’ve read, I’m enjoying Astonishing Thor. Aside from the name, I’ve been intrigued by Alter Ego. This two-page spread by Mike Choi, though…well, it’s just epic. One living planet EATING another? Awesome.
These are men with a purpose. I expressed my dissatisfaction last week over the death of Bucky and Steve being back as Cap, but dammit if this isn’t just an awesome image.
This is the first DC book on here in a few weeks, I believe. But this image had too much going for it not to be included. Flashpoint royally fucked up everything in Batman’s world, but we know it won’t be the Flashpoint Batman that makes it into DC’s new continuity in September. I guess that means the entirety of his cast of characters is fair game for anything…and Azarello certainly is giving us anything and everything.
I grew up with G.I. Joe. Not the dolls, but the ACTION FIGURES!! Loved the cartoons, loved the toys, somewhat knew Marvel was putting out a comic. I picked up the book for a few months when Devil’s Due jumped on the nostalgia bandwagon a put out a new comic. I heard good things about IDW’s relaunch, though, and I’ve been hooked since their beginning. The stories are a bit closer to “real life,” and they’re pretty damn engaging. I’m singling out these panels, though, for the (probably) last words of a Joe who is proud to go out like a true geek.
Ho…ly…crap. It wasn’t until I read the afterward in issue one of Red Skull that I found out that the writer of this book, Greg Pak, also wrote Magneto: Testament three years ago. I remember really being moved by that book. I’m similarly moved by this book, the story of the Red Skull, but instead of sympathy for the main character, I feel nothing but horror. At first I worried that Pak was going to attempt to make the Red Skull a sympathetic character, showing kindness to the puppy and another boy at the orphanage, but the end expertly illustrates the hate and evilness that will one day turn Schmidt into one of the villainous villains in the Marvel universe. Nothing says “future villain” like “child puppy killer.”
As with every issue of Secret Six, there’s a lot to like about this issue if you enjoy snappy dialogue and unwasted panels and pages…and I do. I picked out this panel (as opposed to Knockout remember the fun of battle or King Shark singing as he attacks a house) because it illustrates one of the things I like about this book: Gail Simone is not trying to reform these villains. These are bad people have no questions about their morality or their deeds. And Lawton says it best, “I just like to shoot things.”
I’ve loved Thunderbolts since Warren Ellis took over the title. Never cared for it before, but everybody who has worked on it since has been wonderful. I like tie-in with Fear Itself. It doesn’t feel force like some regular titles do when they cross into big events. It WAS a bit weird, though, to read Uncanny first, where Juggernaut is already on the West Coast, but here he’s only as far as Chicago.
Oh, shit. Namor knows how to bury a knife and then twist it all the way around. I guess Emma isn’t all that used to be on the receiving end of a hurtful barb like this. Also, I hate Greg Land’s art. This book is just ugly. At least the story is compelling.
It's the Fourth of July weekend! It's my 400th blog post! It's...well, I guess that's it.
I got into Breaking Bad late, right before the third season (this past one) started. I caught up quickly, and I fell in love with it. The new season starts in just a few weeks, and I'm thinking I may need to brush up on season three a bit.
I think this is all of a Green Lantern movie that I need.
I don't know what to think about 30 Minutes or Less. It's full of people I like, but it really doesn't look all that funny.
This is just what I needed before diving back into True Blood with the new season just starting on HBO.
I really hope Captain America is a good movie. I like Chris Evans, I like Tommy Lee Jones, I like Hugo Weaving, and I like Captain America when he's written as an actual soldier, not a Boy Scout super hero.

It's a crappy little bit from when Return of the Jedi started filming (listen to what the Ewok calls the movie), but it's some more footage of Carrie Fisher in the gold bikini. Worth it!
Neil Gaiman on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson from June 28, 2001. If I could bring myself to DVR late night TV (I've even given up on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report), I'd watch this show.
Famous Last Words, starring Jacob from Lost/Lucifer from supernatural, Shane from The Walking Dead, and two other guys. It's pretty funny. How's that for a stirring recommendation?

This and "Isn't She Lovely" are probably tied for favorite Stevie Wonder song. And this arrangement is incredible. REALLY makes me want to get my sax in the shop so I can start playing again. Guess I know what I'll be doing today since I get off work early.
Conan "double booked" a couple of comedians, so he had them come out and perform at the same time. These guys are great, as is their timing. I love how one guy's joke will end, and you'll get the crazy punch line from the other but not know what the hell he was talking about.
It had to happen sooner or later, but I was hoping it would be later. I liked Bucky as Cap, and I liked Steve as Commander Rogers. But if the movie is coming out soon, anybody who might wander into a comic store to pick up a Captain America comic needs to see Steve Rogers in the red, white and blue suit. I loved Bucky’s story since his reawakening, and I loved that Cap didn’t immediately come back once he was “reborn.” I just wish this could have lasted a little longer.
I remember when Carnage was first introduced. I remember thinking, “A new symbiote? Awesome!” I was probably around 13 or 14 at the time. I liked him until the Maximum Carnage storyline, which I thought was heavily diluted with guest heroes. I don’t think I read any other issues with Cletus until the done-in-one story where he was crazy and had poured a bucket of red paint all over himself and was “terrorizing” a city street. I have no idea what happened between that issue (drawn by Lee Weeks, I remember) and this series, but I love having him back and drawn by Clayton Crain. This was a great series, and I’m hoping Carnage USA doesn’t go the same way that Maximum Carnage did.
I was less than impressed with the swiftness in which Mister Dark was dispatched, but I was suitably impressed by the North Wind’s power and his reason for defeating Mister Dark at his own expense.

Armor was introduced by Joss Whedon during his run on Astonishing X-Men. As much as I love Joss and pretty much everything he does, I always thought of her as a legacy character, somebody that a new writer introduces early in his run and keeps around just so he can leave his mark. Well, she gets herself a pretty badass moment in this week’s issue.
New Avengers, a title by my second favorite writer Brian Michael Bendis, serves up some mighty fine badassery by Hawkeye and Wolverine. Art is by Mike Deodato, who has come a long way since his Wonder Woman days when I found his work utterly horrible.
I can’t really say that I thought Secret Avengers #12.1 was a very good issue, but I enjoyed this page. I always enjoy it when a hero gives the out-matched villain a much-deserved beatdown.
Thoroughly enjoyed some of the quips in Incredible Hulks #628 this week, and I hope something showed up this past week on Gamma Squad (and it did!).
I was hoping that G.I. Joe v4 #1 would have a couple of badass moments, but nothing jumped out at me. Following the death of Cobra Commander, I was hoping that the relaunched Joe series would fall more in line with the Cobra series, which was a great double-agent spy series.

Here's the trailer for Foo Fighters: Back and Forth. Looks like it's a full-length documentary about the band. I love this band. This is by far my favorite band. I very much want to see this.
Oh, and look, here's the video for "Rope." As far as Foo Fighter videos go, it's pretty meh. Just the guys singing and playing their instruments in a big box, sometimes in silhouette. I tend to enjoy the ones that have a hint of a story to them. I like it when the guys get creative.

It's a baby! Who's cussing! When my youngest says "truck" it sounds like he's saying "fuck." And let's all remember the fun I had while listening to my daughter tell me the name of her favorite Thomas the Tank Engine chum, Percy. She loves Percy.
Watch this video, and then think about the time it must have taken this guy to find all of these videos and blend them together to produce a pretty decent funk song. The second one is just beautiful.
When I first saw a trailer for "Your Highness," I thought it was awesome, and not just because of Natalie Portman's butt (which is awesome). It looked really funny. This trailer, less so. C'mon, no "Magic, mother fucker!"? That's just weak.
Still not as excited about the Captain America movie as I am about Thor, but it doesn't look bad.
Looks like I might be introducing Parker to the Thundercats soon. This looks like something we'll both like.

I realize that there are things that would probably benefit Supernatural by doing an animated version. There would be visuals and monsters and such that a live-action show just wouldn't be able to pull off. Why do you think we didn't actually see any dragons in the dragon episode of Supernatural this year? But this anime version...nope. Do. Not. Want.

Jason Bateman and Jason Sudeikis are awesome, but I want to see this movie because of Charlie Day. He's great on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and he looks like he'll be great in this. And say what you want about her acting skills, Jennifer Aniston is hot. End of discussion.
