The State? The State!

Okay, if you're somewhere between 30 and 35 years old, possibly as old as 40, you may remember that MTV used to play music (psst, kids, MTV stands for Music Television. Weird, right?). Before they became the all-reality all-the-time channel (thanks Real World...thanks a lot), any non-music programming they had on was pretty damn funny. Anyone remember Remote Control? Do you watch the Daily Show. Yeah, Jon Stewart was on MTV about 15-20 years ago.

There was also a little sketch comedy show called The State. Think more Kids in the Hall rather than Saturday Night Live. It was stupid, and irreverent, and funny as hell. And now it's getting released on DVD. Here's the trailer.

As a neat little aside, during the series finale, they did a sketch in a high school setting, and the whole point was to basically fit the names of as many fans as possible in the sketch. My name was announced as the principal of the school. I'm assuming I'm not the only Robert Rosenblatt who is a fan of the show since I never sent my name in, but it was still extremely cool to hear.
