Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout (Beer Review)

This is the first coffee beer that I’ve had that actually tastes somewhat of coffee, and that is apparently due to the fact that Kiuchi Brewery adds espresso beans to the boil. This Japanese beer, which uses the recipe of a Russian imperial stout as its base, pours thick and dark with a nice, fragrant and tan head. There is a big, big, big coffee taste throughout. It’s a very smooth beer that tastes different from any other stout I’ve had.

For me, this would be a good one-off evening beer to savor while watching a bit of TV. I think it would pair exceptionally with some quality chocolate.

A note from the wife: "Holy crap that’s awful. But it’s got a nice aftertaste. Nice and coffee-y."

Crap but with a nice aftertaste? Not a selling point :)

I wouldn't trust her judgment. Her favorite beer is Corona.
